A Squarespace website costs A$17 to A$109 a month in Australia on an annual plan, or A$24 to A$149 a month if you pay month to month. Those prices don't include GST. Squarespace adds 10% at checkout for Australian customers. For a typical small business site you build yourself, the real cost lands somewhere around A$370 to A$800 a year once GST, the domain, email and bookings are counted.
The plan price is only part of the bill. The free domain and the free Google Workspace account both end after the first year. Card fees come out of every online sale. Booking, email marketing and third-party extensions are separate subscriptions. And if you pay someone to build the site, that is a cost of its own.
This guide lists every current plan in AUD, what each extra costs, three realistic yearly totals, and when Squarespace is the right choice for a small business. It links to our more detailed guides along the way. Every Squarespace price here comes from Squarespace's own Australian pages, checked on 12 October 2026.
Squarespace plans and prices in Australia
Squarespace has four website plans. These are the prices its pricing page shows an Australian visitor, in AUD, before GST.
- Basic: A$17 a month billed annually, or A$24 paying monthly.
- Core: A$28 a month billed annually, or A$39 paying monthly. Squarespace marks this one as recommended.
- Plus: A$49 a month billed annually, or A$69 paying monthly.
- Advanced: A$109 a month billed annually, or A$149 paying monthly.
GST is added on top
Squarespace's billing help says the prices on its pricing page don't include tax, and that GST applies to customers in Australia. It works out your tax location from the billing address on your payment method. In practice, Core on an annual plan is A$336 for the year plus A$33.60 GST, so A$369.60.
If your business is registered for GST, Squarespace lets you apply for an exemption from being charged it. Your accountant can tell you which way suits you.
Which plan a small business actually needs
Basic looks like the obvious choice for a simple business site. Squarespace's own plan comparison shows what it leaves out, and some of it matters to a business.
- No free Google Workspace year: the free professional email offer is listed as not included on Basic.
- No code injection: you can't add site-wide code such as a Meta Pixel or a live chat service.
- No premium integrations: Squarespace lists OpenTable reservations and ChowNow ordering here, so a cafe or restaurant would need Core or above.
- A 2% transaction fee on online sales: Basic charges it on products, services and donations sold online. Core and above charge 0%.
- Two contributors only: Core and above allow unlimited contributors.
For most service businesses, Core is the realistic starting plan. Plus and Advanced add lower card rates and more selling features, which matter if you run a busy online shop.
What costs extra on Squarespace
Your domain after year one
Annual plans include one year of free domain registration. After that, Squarespace says the domain renews at its standard rate plus tax. When we searched a .com.au name on Squarespace Domains, the standard price shown was A$27, with a promotional price of A$18.90 for buying the domain on its own. Our guide to buying a .com.au domain explains the eligibility rules.
Google Workspace email
On Core and above, you get one Google Workspace account free for the first year. After that it renews at the standard rate plus tax, and extra users are charged from day one. Squarespace lists the Starter plan at A$10 per user a month on a one-year commitment, or A$11.80 paying monthly. Our guide to setting up a business email address covers the other options.
Card and transaction fees
If you take payments through Squarespace Payments, standard cards cost 1.8% plus A$0.30 on Basic and Core, 1.6% plus A$0.30 on Plus, and 1.4% plus A$0.30 on Advanced. Premium cards, which include all American Express cards, cost 2.9% plus A$0.30 on every plan. Selling courses, memberships or other digital content adds a separate fee of 7% on Basic, 5% on Core, 1% on Plus and 0% on Advanced.
Bookings, email marketing and extensions
- Online bookings: Squarespace Scheduling (Acuity) is a separate subscription. Its Starter plan is A$20 a month billed annually or A$22 monthly, Standard is A$37 or A$40, and Premium is A$68 or A$74.
- Email marketing: Squarespace Email Campaigns starts from A$11 a month on annual billing, for up to 500 emails a month.
- Extensions: Squarespace Extensions are third-party tools for things like tax, shipping and SEO. They are built and managed by other companies, and each one is priced by its provider.
Templates
Squarespace's own templates are included in every plan. Some independent designers sell their own Squarespace templates, which cost extra, but you don't need one to launch.
What it costs to pay someone to build it
Squarespace is built for doing it yourself. If you would rather not, Squarespace runs an expert program with 99designs that matches you with independent designers. Its Australian page gives these as general guides, in US dollars: full site builds from US$1,200, SEO from US$200, and training and support from US$100. Each designer quotes on your project, so the final price depends on the scope.
Hiring a freelancer directly is the other route. Freelance web developer rates in Australia run roughly A$32 to A$138 an hour, so a small site can cost a few hundred dollars or a few thousand depending on how many hours it takes.
Whoever builds it, the Squarespace subscription is still yours to pay every year, and so are any changes after launch unless you make them yourself.
A realistic first-year and ongoing total
Here are three common setups, using Squarespace's current AUD prices with 10% GST added. They assume one email account and the Core plan on annual billing.
- You build it, no bookings: Core is A$369.60 in year one, with the domain and one email account free. From year two, add the domain at A$29.70 and Google Workspace at A$132, so about A$531 a year.
- You build it, with online bookings: add Squarespace Scheduling Starter at A$264 a year. That makes about A$634 in year one and about A$795 a year after that.
- Someone builds it for you: the same running costs, plus the build. Through the Squarespace expert program, full site builds start from US$1,200.
Paying monthly instead of annually costs more. Core at A$39 a month is A$514.80 a year with GST, against A$369.60 on annual billing, and you don't get the free first-year domain.
For comparison, Lumeen currently builds a new website for A$299 inc. GST on a limited-time offer, plus hosting from A$24.99 a month inc. GST, which includes 5 website edits a month. Our Australian website cost guide compares every option side by side.
When Squarespace is the right choice
- It suits you if: you enjoy design, have time to build and update the site yourself, and want hosting, security and the editor in one subscription.
- It suits you if: you sell a small range of products or services and want checkout, invoices and payments in the same place.
- Think twice if: you'd rather not touch the site at all, because every change after launch is yours to make or pay for.
- Think twice if: you need bookings, email marketing and several extensions, because each one adds a subscription to the bill.
Squarespace is a good product for owners who want to build their own site. The mistake is comparing the A$17 headline with a quote that includes the build, the edits and the hosting. Compare the yearly total instead. For a wider comparison, see Squarespace vs Webflow vs WordPress vs owning your site and Wix vs a done-for-you website.
Key takeaways
- (01)
Squarespace plans cost A$17 to A$109 a month billed annually, or A$24 to A$149 monthly, and GST of 10% is added on top.
- (02)
Basic leaves out the free email year, code injection and premium integrations, and charges a 2% fee on online sales, so most businesses start on Core.
- (03)
The domain and Google Workspace are free for the first year only. From year two, a DIY Core site with one email account costs about A$531 a year.
- (04)
Bookings, email marketing, extensions and paying someone to build the site are all extra. Compare yearly totals, not the headline price.
