Website design cost in Australia runs from about $15 a month for a page builder you set up yourself to $5,000 to $25,000 for a small business website built by an agency, with freelancers somewhere in between. Most quotes only show the build price. The monthly cost after launch, and what it costs to leave, are where options really differ.

What changes the price
Every website quote is really pricing the same four things. Two sites that look alike can be priced ten times apart because of the last two.
- Pages and content: a five-page site for a service business and a fifty-page site with a blog and a product catalogue are different jobs on any platform.
- Template or custom design: picking a theme costs nothing extra. A layout built around your services and customers takes longer.
- What the site does: a contact form that emails you is simple. A form that creates a record in your CRM, books a calendar slot or takes a payment is extra work.
- Who builds it: you, a freelancer or an agency, usually in that order of cost.
Page builders: Squarespace, Wix and Webflow
Squarespace, Wix and Webflow all charge a monthly or annual subscription. You pick a template and edit it in their editor. The prices below are from each vendor's pricing page, in US dollars, billed annually.
- Squarespace: from about $19 a month (Basic) to about $99 a month (Advanced), after a price rise of up to 26 percent in July 2026.
- Wix: from $17 a month (Light) to $159 a month (Business Elite). The free plan shows Wix ads and a wixsite.com address, so it doesn't suit a business.
- Webflow: from about $15 a month (Basic) to about $25 a month (Premium) after its May 2026 update, with ecommerce and editor seats billed on top.
The subscription price doesn't include the time it takes to build the site. If you pay someone to set it up, add that on top. And the subscription never ends. Stop paying and the site comes down.
Freelancers and agencies
Most freelancer and agency sites in Australia are built on WordPress. WordPress itself is free. You pay for hosting, a theme, plugins and the person who builds it.
- Freelancer build: $32 to $138 an hour, depending on experience, so a small site can be a few hundred dollars or a few thousand.
- Agency build: $5,000 to $25,000 for a standard small business site, quoted as a project.
- Hosting: $15 to $60 a month for managed WordPress hosting. The $3 to $10 a month deals are usually introductory prices that rise at renewal.
- Domain: roughly $15 to $40 a year for a .com.au name.
What a website redesign costs
A website redesign usually costs about the same as a new website, because most redesigns are rebuilt rather than repainted. The part that differs is migration: moving your pages, content and forms across, and redirecting every old web address to its new one so Google keeps sending you visitors.
Ask whether migration and redirects are included, because some quotes price them separately. Google says rankings can move around for a while after a site changes, and redirecting every old address keeps that period short. Is cheap website design worth it?
A cheap website is a good deal when the low price comes from an efficient process. It's a false economy when the low price comes from something missing. The difference shows up in three questions, so ask them before you pay.
- Who owns the domain? It should be registered in your business's name, not the designer's.
- What do I pay every month, and what does that include? Hosting, security, backups and edits should be listed, with the renewal price.
- What does it cost to leave? A site you can't move without paying someone for permission isn't cheap.
Check the basics too: the site should work well on a phone, load quickly, and have a page for each service you want customers to find on Google.
